Tatiana Suarez vs Virna Jandiroba prediction: Tatiana Suarez's takedowns run into Virna Jandiroba's 73% wall

Two strawweight grapplers with a title shot in view, and the fight likely turns on whether Suarez can get Jandiroba down and keep her there.

The moneyline
Tatiana Suarez-202.5 (64.1% implied)
Virna Jandiroba+167 (35.9% implied)

Median of US sportsbooks; implied chances have the books' margin removed. Updated Nov 3, 3:06 PM ET.

Quick take
  • Expect Suarez to chain takedowns early and work from top. Jandiroba's path runs through stuffed shots, scrambles and a long, grinding decision.
  • Watch Suarez's first few entries. If Jandiroba defends them and the fight stays standing, the tone of the fight changes.
  • Suarez is -202.5, about 64.1% no-vig, edging from -200. Jandiroba's 73% takedown defense is the number that bears hardest on that price.

The takedown is the fight

Two failed bookings, two former title challengers, and a title shot expected for the winner. This co-main at the Meta APEX finally puts strawweight's most decorated wrestler in front of one of its best jiu-jitsu players, and almost everything depends on one question: can Tatiana Suarez take Virna Jandiroba down?

Suarez lands 4.52 takedowns per 15 minutes in the UFC and spends 60% of her fight time in control. That is the engine behind a 9-1 UFC record. Jandiroba, though, stops 73% of the takedown attempts thrown at her, and she has spent her career fighting other grapplers.

The warning sign for Suarez came against Zhang Weili at UFC 312. She finished that five-round title fight 1 of 15 on takedowns and lost a clear decision. When the shots stop landing, her game thins out fast. Against Amanda Lemos last September she landed only 3 of 12 and still won on control, so she can survive a low hit rate. She cannot survive a zero.

Danger from the bottom

Jandiroba is not a fighter who simply tries to get back up. She attempts 1.39 submissions per 15 minutes, roughly double the pace of Suarez, and owns 14 submission wins as a pro. Her armbar from back control against Lemos showed how quickly a scramble becomes a finish.

Suarez has her own answer to that threat. Two of her recent submissions, against Jessica Andrade and Montana De La Rosa, were guillotines after dropping to guard, which means she punishes opponents who shoot back on her. If Jandiroba tries to reverse the wrestling and initiate herself, that trap is waiting.

Neither woman has been finished in the UFC. All of Jandiroba's four UFC losses came on the scorecards, as did Suarez's lone defeat. That points toward rounds, not a sudden ending, unless someone gets caught in a transition.

What the common opponents say

They share three opponents, and the results lean Suarez's way. Suarez submitted Loopy Godinez in the second round in April; Jandiroba needed a decision against her in 2024. Suarez stopped Carla Esparza in 2018; Esparza beat Jandiroba on the cards in 2019. Lemos is the exception, and the strongest one: Jandiroba tapped her in the second round, while Suarez went the distance.

Style comparisons across years are loose, but the pattern fits. Suarez has been more dominant against wrestlers, and Jandiroba has been more dangerous against fighters who end up underneath her.

If it stays standing

Neither fighter wants a long kickboxing match. Suarez absorbs just 1.63 significant strikes a minute, partly because so much of her fighting happens on top. Jandiroba takes 2.86 a minute, and she is likely to struggle in prolonged striking exchanges.

That cuts both ways. Jandiroba's defense on the feet is not her strength, but Suarez is not a heavy hitter either, with no UFC knockdowns on her ledger. Stalemated standing rounds would be scrappy and close, which suits the fighter whose takedown defense is holding.

Age is part of the picture too. Suarez is 35 and Jandiroba 38, and Suarez's history includes the unspecified health issue that pulled her out of UFC 310 in December 2024.

Stakes and the price

This booking has history. Jandiroba withdrew from the August 2023 date with a knee injury, and Andrade stepped in. Suarez's later withdrawal scrapped another attempt. This time Jandiroba says she has completed two training camps for the fight, and no fight-week injury or weight issue has surfaced for either woman.

Jandiroba is openly looking past this one toward a third fight with champion Mackenzie Dern, saying she needs only a week of rest afterward. She lost the vacant title to Dern on the cards at UFC 321.

The market sides with the wrestler. Suarez sits at -202.5 across 8 books, an implied 64.1% once the margin is removed, nudged slightly from -200 when our feed first saw it. Jandiroba is +167. The price assumes Suarez's takedowns land often enough; Jandiroba's defensive record is the case against it.
