Elmira vs Le Moyne prediction: Le Moyne's rebuilt roster gets its first home look against Elmira
With almost none of last season's minutes back, Le Moyne's home debut against Elmira is a first look at a team assembled almost entirely from transfers.
- Le Moyne should have the edge at home, so watch rotations and roles more than the scoreboard.
- Watch the transfer guards, Jayden Teat and Jeremy Clayville, for which of them takes on a lead scoring role.
- No line has been posted. The number that matters most is Le Moyne's 4.0% of returning minutes.
A roster built from scratch
Le Moyne barely resembles the team that went 15-17 last season. Players on this season's roster account for only 4.0% of last season's minutes and 3.6% of its points. The Dolphins added 10 transfers and three freshmen over the summer.
The losses are steep. Shilo Jackson averaged 15.8 points and shot 63.1% from the floor last season and is not on this season's roster. Trent Mosquera, who averaged 13.5 points, is now at Tennessee Tech. Coach Nate Champion opens at Nebraska on Nov. 2, so this home game against Elmira comes a week later.
Who takes the shots
Jayden Teat brings the most proven shooting. He made 35 of 101 threes at Sacramento State last season. Jeremy Clayville carried a 23.4% usage rate at NJIT but posted an 86.6 offensive rating there, so his shot selection is worth watching. Damien King was more efficient at UT Martin, with a 113.4 offensive rating in a smaller role.
Among returners, Trevor Roe posted a 113.1 offensive rating in 7.3 minutes a game last season. Guard Ametri Moss, who started both games he played last season, has an unconfirmed eligibility status.
Last season is a faint guide
Le Moyne's identity last season came from its interior defense. Opponents shot 45.9% on twos, 19th in Division I. The weak spots were turnovers (19.0 per 100 possessions, 320th) and offensive rebounding (337th). With this much turnover, those numbers describe a different group of players.
Elmira, in its second season under Denis Tobin, last appeared in our notes losing 100-91 in overtime at Hartwick in February.
An unsettled status
Elmira's schedule lists this game as an exhibition. Le Moyne's schedule lists it as a regular-season game. The game also falls in a year of change off the court, after Le Moyne accepted an invitation to join The Metro for the 2027-28 academic year.
Key players
- Jayden Teat (Le Moyne): Shot 34.7% on threes on 101 attempts last season at Sacramento State.
- Jeremy Clayville (Le Moyne): Used 23.4% of possessions at NJIT last season but with an 86.6 offensive rating.
- Damien King (Le Moyne): Posted a 113.4 offensive rating in 14.4 minutes a game last season.
- Trevor Roe (Le Moyne): Averaged 2.9 points in 7.3 minutes last season and is among the few players back.
Numbers that matter
| Returning minutes | 4.0% | Almost none of last season's minutes return, so last season's team stats say little about this group. |
|---|---|---|
| Transfers added | 10 | Le Moyne also added three freshmen, so the rotation is being built from scratch. |
| Opponent 2-point % (last season) | 45.9% | Ranked 19th nationally, last season's defensive strength, built largely by players who are gone. |
| Turnover rate (last season) | 19.0 | Ranked 320th last season, a ball-security problem the new guards have a chance to fix. |
