Regis (CO) vs Wyoming prediction: Wyoming's 10 newcomers get their first real test against Division II Regis
Sundance Wicks opens his third season in Laramie with a remade roster, and the home opener against Regis is more about who earns minutes than who wins.
- Wyoming should control a Division II visitor at home, with the real interest in how 10 newcomers mesh with returners.
- Watch Wyoming's defense at the foul line: last season it ranked 361st of 365 in opponent free throw rate.
- No spread or total has posted yet; Wyoming finished last season with an adjusted net rating of 8.3, 94th nationally.
A new roster opens at home
Wyoming starts the regular season at Arena-Auditorium on Nov. 3 against Regis, a Division II program from the Denver area. The tip time hasn't been confirmed, and listings conflict. The result matters less than the rotation. Sundance Wicks enters his third season with 10 newcomers joining a core of returners: Uriah Rojas, Nasir "Naz" Meyer, Khaden Bennett, Gavin Gores and redshirt Neil Summers, a Laramie native.
That much turnover makes last season's team numbers a loose guide. Wyoming went 18-15 in 2025-26, a run that included an NIT bid. The Cowboys have already had one tuneup, a 94-68 exhibition win over Northern Colorado after leading 48-35 at halftime. Wyoming was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll, behind New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Nevada and UNLV.
What last season's profile flagged
Wyoming's offense was the stronger half. It finished last season 77th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions, adjusted for opponents) at 115.4. Second chances drove a lot of that. The Cowboys grabbed 34.5% of their own misses, 67th in the country.
The defense had a clear weakness: fouling. Opponents' free throw rate (free throw attempts per field goal attempt) hit 46.7%, which ranked 361st of 365. Wyoming also blocked shots rarely, 317th in block rate. Against a Division II opponent, the opener is a low-stakes chance to see whether the new group keeps opponents off the line.
The visitors
Regis plays for Rex Walters, whom the school hired in August 2025. The Rangers have made the Division II tournament six times, most recently in 2024-25. Little else about this season's roster is available. The two programs met in a 2017 exhibition that Wyoming won 75-65 in Laramie.
Numbers that matter
| Wyoming adjusted net rating (last season) | 94th | Last season's final adjusted net efficiency of 8.3 per 100 possessions is the baseline for a roster that has since added 10 newcomers. |
|---|---|---|
| Opponent free throw rate (last season) | 46.7% | That ranked 361st of 365, the defense's most glaring flaw heading into the new season. |
| Offensive rebound rate (last season) | 34.5% | A 67th-ranked offensive glass effort that gave Wyoming's offense extra possessions. |
| Exhibition result | 94-68 | Wyoming's tuneup win over Northern Colorado is the only look so far at the new group. |
