Franklin vs Bellarmine prediction: Kenyon Goodin leads a rebuilt Bellarmine into its Knights Hall debut

The Knights lost their top two scorers, so Division III Franklin offers a first home look at who carries the offense now and whether last season's last-ranked defense has changed.

Quick take
  • Bellarmine should control a Division III visitor at home. The real test is how a reshuffled rotation shares the scoring.
  • Watch Kenyon Goodin's usage. He shot 41.8% from three last season as a complementary piece and now becomes the headliner.
  • No line is posted. Last season's pace of 65.9 possessions (275th) points to a deliberate tempo once one appears.

Goodin's turn to lead

Bellarmine opens at home after an offseason that took apart its offense. The roster returns 48.4% of last season's minutes and only 38.7% of its points. Jack Karasinski, who averaged 21.7 points, left for Northwestern, and Brian Waddell and his 15.0 points are gone too.

That makes Kenyon Goodin the centerpiece. The redshirt junior was named to the Preseason All-ASUN team after shooting 41.8% from three last season, with an offensive rating of 134.8 (points produced per 100 possessions). Sam Donald (42.1% from three) and Tyler Doyle (3.8 assists a game) also return. ASUN coaches picked the Knights fourth in the league.

Elite shooting, broken defense

Last season's Bellarmine shot the ball as well as almost anyone. Its effective field goal percentage (threes count 1.5 times) was 59.9%, sixth in Division I. The defense undid much of that work. The Knights allowed 123.0 points per 100 possessions, 364th of 365, and opponents hit 39.7% of their threes, the worst mark in the country.

Opponents also launched from deep freely, with 50.4% of their shots coming from three, the fourth-highest rate. Bellarmine rarely got second chances either: its offensive rebound rate of 23.1% ranked 355th. With so much of the roster new, those numbers describe last season's team more than this one. Still, a Division III opponent gives the Knights a low-stakes chance to show whether the perimeter defense has tightened.

What Franklin brings
