Northwestern Oklahoma State vs Oral Roberts prediction: Ty Danielson brings a Summit League education back to Oral Roberts
Northwestern Oklahoma State's new coach spent last season helping North Dakota reach the Summit final, and his first test comes against a rebuilt Oral Roberts roster in Tulsa.
- Oral Roberts is at home against a team we hold no Division I data for, so the real interest is in how its transfers and freshmen fit together.
- Watch ORU's transfer guards, Amire Robinson, Cam Haffner and Chase Martin, and whether they clean up last season's turnover problem.
- No spread or total is posted yet; ORU's last-season adjusted net efficiency of -13.2 ranked 307th of 365.
A familiar face from the Summit
Northwestern Oklahoma State hired Ty Danielson on April 16, and he arrives knowing the league Oral Roberts plays in. He was an assistant at North Dakota, which reached the Summit League championship game in 2025-26. He arrives knowing the Summit, even if the roster across the floor has changed a great deal.
Danielson's staff includes assistant Brody Werner and graduate assistant LJ Lampley. Beyond that, little is public: the Rangers' 2026-27 roster had not listed players, and they are not a Division I program, so there is no statistical profile to measure.
Barnett's reshuffled roster
Kory Barnett enters his second season at Oral Roberts. He is 36, this is his first head-coaching job, and he is the program's fourth head coach in 10 seasons.
He spent the spring rebuilding. Guard Amire Robinson signed April 18, forward Marko Pavlovic followed April 28, and forward Mihail Gavazov joined May 5. Senior guard Cam Haffner, whose stops include Eastern Illinois, Evansville and Western Kentucky, and redshirt senior guard Chase Martin from Wofford add experience. Jamal George, a 6-5 freshman guard from Switzerland, heads a freshman group that also includes Boden Williams, Alberto Blanco and Alex Couto. Ty Harper and Kevin Obanor are not on the new roster. Nobody has said who will start.
What last season left behind
Last season ORU went 10-23 and ended with a 76-65 loss to North Dakota State in the Summit tournament on March 6. With this much roster churn, those numbers are a loose guide, but they show what Barnett needed to fix.
The Golden Eagles leaned on the three: their 3-point attempt rate of 46.1% ranked 44th nationally, yet they made just 32.3% of those shots. Ball security was worse. Their turnover rate of 18.9 per 100 possessions ranked 312th. Their adjusted offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions, adjusted for opponents) was 101.2, 305th in the country.
A game against a non-Division I visitor at the Mabee Center on November 7 is a chance to see whether the new guards take better care of the ball before the schedule stiffens.
Numbers that matter
| ORU last-season record | 10-23 | The baseline Barnett's spring transfer haul is meant to raise. |
|---|---|---|
| ORU turnover rate, last season | 18.9 | Ranked 312th nationally, the clearest weakness for the new backcourt to fix. |
| ORU 3-point attempt rate, last season | 46.1% | A shot-heavy identity that ranked 44th in volume but produced poor accuracy. |
