North Carolina Central vs Longwood prediction: Longwood's rebuilt backcourt faces NC Central's near-total reset

Both rosters were remade over the offseason, but Longwood brings back a preseason all-conference wing and adds another, while NC Central has one veteran and 14 newcomers.

Quick take
  • Expect a turnover-heavy game: both teams forced turnovers at elite rates last season (NC Central 10th, Longwood 13th), and Longwood's offensive rebounding could matter at home.
  • Longwood on the offensive glass against an NC Central defense that ranked 364th in defensive rebound rate last season.
  • No spread or total posted yet; last season's adjusted net ratings had Longwood 265th and NC Central 346th.

Two rosters, two kinds of rebuild

Neither team that takes the floor at the Joan Perry Brock Center on Nov. 7 looks much like last season's version. The difference is how much each one kept.

Longwood went 16-16 last season and returns only 26.7% of its minutes. That is a heavy turnover, but the core it kept is useful. Alphonzo Billups III started 18 games and averaged 8.1 points last season, and Ronnie Thomas, entering his second year, added Eastern Kentucky's MJ Williams in May. The Big South coaches picked Longwood fourth, and both guards made the preseason all-conference second team.

NC Central's reset goes deeper. The Eagles went 14-18 last season and still reached the MEAC tournament final, but LeVelle Moton's August roster release named senior guard Ryan Archey as the lone veteran among 14 newcomers. Fifth-year forward Christian Meeks arrives from Morgan State. That makes last season's team numbers a weak guide for the Eagles. The one constant is the coach, LeVelle Moton.
