York College Nebraska vs Omaha prediction: Omaha's rebuilt roster gets its first home test against York

With barely a fifth of last season's minutes back, the Mavericks' visit from York is less about the result than about who emerges.

Quick take
  • Omaha has handled York easily in each recent meeting; expect the Mavericks to control this one and spread minutes across a new rotation.
  • Watch how Grant Stubblefield runs an offense built largely around transfers like Chris Dockery and Cahmai Crosby.
  • No spread or total has been posted; Omaha's 19.8% returning minutes makes last season's numbers a weak guide to any line.

A familiar early-season visitor

York College has become a regular stop on Omaha's early calendar, and the meetings have not been close. The Mavericks beat York 105-58 last December, opened the 2024-25 season with a 101-62 win, and won 104-68 in November 2023.

This year's game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 8:00 PM ET at Baxter Arena. York is not a Division I program, so there's no efficiency profile to set against Omaha's. The interest lies almost entirely on the home bench.

Who is actually back

Omaha returns just 19.8% of last season's minutes and 15.6% of its points. The departures hit the backcourt hard: Paul Djobet, who averaged 17.4 points, is now at Texas State, and Lance Waddles, a 33-game starter, left for Campbell.

Grant Stubblefield is the anchor. He started 22 games last season and posted an offensive rating of 116.9, and the Summit League named him to its preseason All-League second team in October. Around him sit eight confirmed newcomers, including transfers Chris Dockery from Kansas City, Cahmai Crosby from North Texas, Dace Pleasant, Deke Thompson and Heri Bukinga, plus freshmen Ethan Sheats and Jonny Jordan Jr.

A game like this is where Chris Crutchfield, listed in his fifth season, sorts out rotations. Dockery brings rebounding from the guard spot, having averaged 6.0 boards at Kansas City last season. Crosby was a perimeter specialist at North Texas, taking 73 threes in limited minutes.

Last season as a loose baseline

Omaha went 16-17 last season and finished 257th of 365 in adjusted net efficiency (points per 100 possessions, adjusted for opponents). The offense shot well, ranking 91st in effective field goal percentage, where threes count 1.5 times. The defense was the problem: opponents hit 55.1% inside the arc, 326th nationally.

With this little continuity, those numbers describe a different team. Summit League voters still picked Omaha 4th in the preseason poll, with one first-place vote, which suggests they trust the newcomers more than the old ratings do.

Key players

  • Grant Stubblefield (Omaha): Averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 assists last season with an offensive rating of 116.9.
  • Chris Dockery (Omaha): Averaged 7.2 points and 6.0 rebounds at Kansas City last season.
  • Cahmai Crosby (Omaha): Shot 34.2% from three on 73 attempts off the bench at North Texas last season.
  • Brock Scholl (Omaha): Played in all 33 games last season, averaging 14.5 minutes and 4.1 points.
