Queens University vs Oklahoma State prediction: Queens' three-point barrage tests Oklahoma State's soft perimeter in Stillwater

The ASUN champions shot their way to the NCAA Tournament last season, and the Cowboys' defense allowed threes as freely as almost anyone in the Big 12.

Quick take
  • Expect a fast, high-scoring game: both teams allowed over 83 points a game last season and Oklahoma State played at a top-10 pace.
  • Queens' high-volume three-point attack against an Oklahoma State defense that ranked 320th in opponent 3-point percentage last season.
  • No line has posted yet; last season's final adjusted net ratings had Oklahoma State 80th and Queens 203rd nationally.

The Royals live behind the arc

Queens spent last season proving it belonged. In its first postseason-eligible year as a Division I member, it won the ASUN tournament with a 98-93 overtime win over Central Arkansas, then lost to No. 2 seed Purdue in the NCAA first round. The Royals did it with shooting.

Their effective field goal percentage (a shooting mark where threes count 1.5 times) was 56.6%, 16th in the country. Nearly half their shots came from deep: a 46.8% three-point attempt rate ranked 36th.

That profile lands on a sore spot. Oklahoma State let opponents shoot 36.0% from three last season, 320th nationally, and teams attacked that weakness, taking threes at a rate that ranked 68th. If Queens' returning shooters carry over even part of that form, the Cowboys will need to run them off the line. Seniors Chris Ashby and Nasir Mann are on the 2026-27 roster alongside a freshman class that includes Atakan Bicer, Julius Matusek and Caleb Jones.

Built for a track meet

Steve Lutz's Cowboys played fast last season, averaging 73.4 possessions per 40 minutes, eighth in the nation. Queens was quick too, ranking 64th in pace.

Neither team stopped much once the game sped up. Queens allowed 83.5 points per game, 356th, and Oklahoma State wasn't far behind at 83.2, ranking 354th. Queens' defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions) ranked 351st. These are last season's numbers on rosters that have changed, so treat them as a sketch rather than a forecast, but the stylistic lean toward a high-possession, high-scoring night is clear.

Where Oklahoma State can win it

The Cowboys' best counter is to get to the rim and the free-throw line. Their free throw rate (free-throw attempts per field-goal attempt) of 39.4% ranked 68th last season, and Queens' defense sent opponents to the line often, ranking 278th in opponent free throw rate.

The glass is another opening. Queens rebounded just 66.3% of opponents' misses, 328th nationally, so second chances should be available to a bigger Big 12 frontcourt.

Questions in the Cowboys' frontcourt

Oklahoma State's preseason has raised more questions than answers. The Cowboys lost their Oct. 11 exhibition to New Mexico, 89-99, and Mekhi Ragland and Jordan Burks did not play in that game for undisclosed reasons. Their status for this game hasn't been announced.

Center Parsa Fallah, a 6-10 big man, was recovering from knee surgery after a season-ending injury as of late July, with a return expected this season. Oklahoma State hasn't said whether he'll be available on Nov. 6. His presence would matter in exactly the areas where the Cowboys hold an edge: the paint and the boards.

Sizing up the gap

Last season's final adjusted ratings (points per 100 possessions, adjusted for opponents) put Oklahoma State's net mark at 11, 80th nationally, against Queens at -2.6, 203rd. The Royals' offense was the real thing, 75th in adjusted efficiency, but their defense ranked 333rd.

The game is listed for 8 p.m. on ESPN+, and no betting line has posted yet. When one does, the Cowboys' home floor and Big 12 talent will set the favorite, while Queens' shooting is the reason a big number could be hard to cover.
