New College (FL) vs Florida Gulf Coast prediction: FGCU opens Alico Arena against New College with a reshuffled rotation

The NAIA visitor lost 96-60 here last season, so the real story is how Pat Chambers' eight returners and eight newcomers fit together.

Quick take
  • Florida Gulf Coast should control this home opener against an NAIA opponent it beat 96-60 here last season.
  • Watch Darren Williams and George Washington III, who lead the eight returners, alongside graduate transfers Elijah Brooks and Bryson Lucas.
  • No spread or total was posted as of Oct. 19; last season's 96-60 result is the only head-to-head reference.

A home opener with a familiar guest

Florida Gulf Coast opens its home schedule at Alico Arena on Nov. 6 against New College of Florida, an NAIA program. The tip time is unconfirmed: one schedule lists 7 p.m., another lists the game without details. This is the same opponent FGCU beat 96-60 on Nov. 3, 2025.

With no Division I data on New College, the scoreboard matters less than the rotation. Pat Chambers, in his fourth season with the Eagles, gets an early look at a roster that changed a lot over the offseason.

What last season's numbers say

FGCU went 16-18 last season. Its offense ranked 89th of 365 in raw efficiency (points per 100 possessions) at 115.3. Its defense ranked 312th, allowing 114.0. After adjusting for opponents, last season's final ratings were more modest on both ends: 220th on offense and 252nd on defense.

The defense had a clear weakness. Opponents took 45.5% of their shots from three, the 26th-highest share in the country. FGCU did make up some of that with activity, ranking 55th in steal rate and 62nd in defensive rebounding. Against a smaller-school opponent, those traits should produce extra possessions.

The new pieces to evaluate

Darren Williams and George Washington III lead the eight returners. Graduate transfers Elijah Brooks and Bryson Lucas, senior CJ Outlaw and sophomore Justin Houser make up the transfer class. Nikolas Sermpezis, Trace Westercamp, Turk Brown III and Kingston Wheatley arrive as freshmen.

So much of the roster is new that last season's team numbers are a loose guide. An opener like this could give freshmen early minutes, which would make it a useful first read on Chambers' depth.

No injury or eligibility news for either team had surfaced as of Oct. 19. BB Washington and Gabe Tanner missed last season; there is no update on their status for this season.
